According to the American Music Therapy Association, "Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. Music Therapy is an established health profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals."
While I am not professionally trained in music therapy nor provide music therapy as a service, I do believe that "music is food for the soul." My favorite genre of music is Dance/Electronica (not to be confused with Techno). This genre always has an upbeat tempo and great lyrics. My husband on the other hand prefers Heavy Metal, which he claims has a positive message, but all I hear is screaming and I can't help but feel anxious while listening to it. We have a rule in our household: the one driving, picks the music. Needless to say, I am always volunteering to be the driver on our family outings! Back to my point...
Life has its ups and downs, we interact with many different people in a given day, of which, we get to choose whether they are positive or negative interactions. Everyday is a work in progress for me, but I strive to be as positive and happy as possible. So in the car and at work, you will find me listening to my favorite Dance hits that keep me in a positive state of mind. It's hard to have road rage while singing about "Happy People" by Robots Don't Sleep, or to write a harsh email to a co-worker while listening to "Heroes" by Alesso. What I'm trying to say is, I believe that there is power behind music, both the beat and the lyrics, and that we should listen to as much awesome, inspiring and uplifting music as we can.
So, I have created a Spotify playlist for The Shift, (you can find the link on the contacts section of the website or on the music page) filled with inspiring music with great beats and positive messages. Check it out for the soundtrack of The Shift!
