Hypothetically speaking, I am a 50 something year old adult, but I tell people I am 40 or 30 something. Why? Well... “I don't feel like a 50 something, I still enjoy embracing life to the fullest and having the time of my life! I don't want others to treat me differently because I am older, so I'll just tell them the age I feel. What's so wrong with that?” Aside from how people will treat you differently when they find out you lied to them, you are not being true to yourself. You might say, “but I'm being true to how I feel,” to that I must disagree.
Let's analyze the facts and embrace the truth in a positive healthy way. If people would believe that I am in my 40s or 30s when I am actually in my 50s... OMG! I look amazing!!! Why not shout it from the rooftops? I wouldn't be able to wait to tell everyone my age, because after I tell them, they would say, “Wow, I would never have guessed! What is your secret? How can I look younger too?!” You know what happens next? That instant glowing feeling of je ne sais quoi that makes me feel like a proud peacock strutting its feathers! I feel giddy and full of joy, most definitely not the feeling of a 50 something with an arthritic hip, but more like a 5 year old dancing in a field of flowers and sunshine! And guess what? This feeling that I'm feeling is attractive and contagious.
Think about someone you know that lives their life experiencing this open, lighthearted joy. How do they make you feel? You can't help but want to be around them, right? Now imagine if that was you. Man, how amazing would that feel?! I would be BFFs with myself! I couldn't wait to spend time with myself!
This is just one example of how being true to yourself can be so awesome! Now you try it.
